To a better world
When I took my gargantuan 1940s desktop typewriter to get repaired, my Lyft driver was fascinated. In a short, ten-minute ride, our conversation expanded from technology, to labor, to capitalism, and the future.
Once I arrived home, I improvised this poem for him - for Hamza, and called it “To a better world.”

A scan of a typewritten poem, with handwritten edits. The poem text is included below.
To a better world
for Hamza
He hopes for a better world
In the face of all this adversity
From the seat of his black Toyota Camry
He prays for the end of innocent deaths
The lowering of prices
The rising of wages
The end of pollution of the planet
He asks for EVERYTHING.
And, if I had my way
He would have it.
