Address change list

| wiki home | 1 min

Work in progress.

Let’s say you run a 501(c)(3) public charity (as I have, several times). You change your address. What do you need to do to update it? (NOT legal advice)

  • the state you incorporated in
    • may require a board resolution in some places?
  • the charities bureau of the state you are incorporated in
  • your registered agent (depending on how you have it set up)
  • the IRS
  • your bookkeepers/accountants/auditors
  • banks
  • payment processors
  • insurance broker, who should tell the insurance compan(ies)
  • payroll/PEO/EOR companies
  • software: accounting
  • online accounts: TechSoup
  • people that pay you that have annoying remittance systems (universities, large foundations, large corporations)

And if you want to be really careful:

  • send an email to everyone you have a contract with - or at least institutions with whom you have major contracts

My understanding is that the list is quite similar for name changes, though perhaps more involved.
