Ideas
Jack Sjogren of Hyperallergic made a short comic comparing ideas to food:
- Having an idea is like buying groceries.
- If it’s a meaty or cheesy idea (especially then), you must use it before long or it will go bad.
- If you just go around telling everyone about it without actually doing something with it, it’ll lose its magic.1
- If you keep buying more and more food, but never use it, you’ll starve and everything will spoil.
- The best broths are slow-cooked, but even they were put over a low flame at some point with a specific goal in mind.
- It’s good to keep an emergency stash in the cupboard, but we must use your ideas before they expire.

This part is not unlike what my favorite fortune - from a fortune cookie - once read: “Speak less of your plans; you will get more of them done.” ↩︎
